Samuel Adetomi, an eighteen (18) year old ‘traffic robber,’ has been arrested by the Decoy Team of the Rapid Response Squad, (RRS), around Otedola Bridge, in the Ojodu – Berger area of Lagos State, last weekend.
Adetomi, who confessed to be a ‘traffic hawker,’ selling bottled water during the day, was in company of four (4) other gang members, trying to rob a motorist, when he was nabbed by the police, who were on a ‘sting operation.’
Sources said, it took the efforts of more than six policemen to subdue Adetomi, who confessed to have been fully fortified with charms by his father, before leaving his Abeokuta hometown in Ogun state for Lagos.
The ‘RRS sting operation’, is part of the order, given by the Rapid Response Squad Commander, CSP. Olayinka Egbeyemi, to ensure that, some spots within the Lagos metropolis, notorious for traffic robbery, and other forms of violence, are rid of criminal elements, especially during the festive periods.
CSP. Egbeyemi, while reiterating the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP. Hakeem Odumosu’s stance on criminal activities in the State, and the need to flush them out, said, more security strategies are being deployed, to reduce crime during this festive periods.
Samuel Adetomi, has however, on the directives of CP. Odumosu, been transferred to court for prosecution, and was said to have been sentenced to four (4) months imprisonment.
Other members of the highway robbers, were however, ‘lucky’ to have escaped police arrests this time around.
