Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, the presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally picked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state as his running mate in the 2023 presidential race.
The former vice president Atiku made Okowa’s nomination known on Thursday, June 16, 2022, when he announced same at an event held in Abuja to unveil the PDP Vice Presidential candidate.
Abubakar Atiku also confirmed same on his Twitter page. He wrote:
“I am delighted to announce Governor @AOkowa as my Vice Presidential candidate. I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all
Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done. #OneNigeria.
AA
ATIKU/OKOWA”
Following the announcement, Okowa will thereafter be screened by a committee already setup for that purpose.
However, Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, who came second during the PDP primary election, and was expected to be favoured by the party as Atiku’s running mate, was later dropped to favour Gov. Okowa of Delta state who was said to have supported Atiku during the primary election and more so, from the south-south zone like Wike who was Atiku’s preferred choice before the change.
