Kidnappers camouflaged as gunmen,that stormed the home of the Niger State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mallam Idris Mohammed, on the night of August 8th, have contacted his family and demanded for the sum of N500 million naira as the ransom expected to be paid.
Although, the whereabouts of the commissioner is yet to be known, but the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alhaji Ahmed Matane has confirmed the abduction while members of the State Government has gathered at the State’s Government House, to deliberate on the incidence. The meeting was headed by the State’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Ketso, and other securities heads of the state.
Since the news of the abduction of the Commissioner broke out, the Minna State House, is said to be in sober mood. Staff members under the Ministry of Information and strategy were also confirmed to be in groups quietly discussing the ugly incident.

It is no longer news however, that unscrupulous individuals parading themselves as gunmen/bandits have made kidnapping for ransom a ‘good’ business venture across the country; especially in some parts of the northern region.
