A 22 year-old Corp member, Arnold Maniru, serving with a government agency, in Abuja, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for allegedly importing drugged laced candies from the United Kingdom.
In a Statement issued by the NDLEA Spokesperson, Femi Babafemi on Sunday, it is stated that, Corper Maniru was arrested on Saturday 28th August, 2021, following the interception of his consignment at a warehouse of a transportation company. Consequently, this led to the arrest of the serving Corp member.
The drug laced candles were said to contain a substance called, Arizona, a strong variant of cannabis. Some other form of liquid substance were also reportedly found in Corper Maniru’s package.
NDLEA raids at different times in some part of the country namely: FCT, Kogi, Rivers, Kano, Niger, Borno, Nasarawa and Ebonyi state were also said to be successful with many drug seizures and offenders arrested.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, has commended the commanders, officers and men of the various commands of the Agency, for jobs well done; and for not relenting in their efforts to clampdown drug traffickers and dealers in the country.
Buba Marwa therefore, urged the NDLEA operatives to intensify the ongoing war against drug abuse and trafficking across the states, while also assuring them that President Muhammadu Buhari is impressed by their performances and willing to improve their welfare as they continue in the fight against drugs.
