AFCON 21: Ex President Jonathan Commends Super Eagles Performances … Says It shows Nigerians Resilient Spirit

The former president of the nation, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has commended the efforts of the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the ongoing AFCON 2021.

 

In a statement released shortly after the Nigerian team won the match against Guinea Bissau on Wednesday evening, the ex Nigerian president, Jonathan, said, the Super Eagles has demonstrated the resilient spirit of Nigerians; and praised the team with these words: “well done NGSuperEagles for advancing to the knockout stage of #AFCON2021.”

 

The Super Eagles has so far, won all their matches at the group stage, making them the lead in Group D with 9 points.

 

Yesterday’s match which ended 2- 0 with Umar Sadiq, number 13 shirt, scoring the first goal in the 56’ of the 2nd half, while Williams T. Ekong, Nigeria’s number 5 shirt, scoring the second goal in the 75’ of play.

 

Nigeria/Sudan match ended 3-1 with number 17 shirt, Samuel Chukwueze, scoring the first goal within 2’ into play.

 Taiwo Awoniyi, 19 shirt, scored the second goal in the 45 minutes; while Moses Simon, 15 shirt scored the third goal in the 15’ of the 2nd half.

 

Nigeria first match against the Pharaohs of Egypt, witnessed Kelechi Iheanacho, 14 shirt, scoring the first and only goal of the match, within 30 minutes into play; giving the team 3 points.

With this, Augustine Eguavoen, the head coach of the Super Eagles, is optimistic that the Nigerian team will lead the tournament with his approach of “forget the win, prepare for the next match”.

 

However, information gathered revealed that, the Guinea Bissau team had vowed to rather ‘die’ than see the Nigerian team win the match, because they cannot afford to be out of the tournament.
