The Catholic Diocese of Enugu, in a disclaimer issued on Thursday, June 16, 2022, titled: “RE: INFLAMMATORY POLITICAL UTTERANCES BY FR. CAMILLUS EJIKE MBAKA” has distanced itself from the statement made on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 by Rev. Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka, the Director of Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu, during his Wednesday Adoration Programme.
While preaching at the programme, Fr. Mbaka reportedly “attacked the good reputation of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, describing him as ‘a stingy man’ and as ‘a joker’, contrary to canon 220 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law which prohibits anyone from illegitimately harming the good name of a person.”
To this end, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, headed by the Diocesan Bishop, Most Rev. Callistus V.C. Onaga, has “condemned and dissociated herself from such unbecoming and divisive utterances from Fr. Mbaka; with the emphasis that, the utterances were strictly “Fr. Mbaka’s views, “entirely personal to him… and not the collective opinion of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu.
