BAT: I Didn’t Say I’ll Fight Dirty, I Was Misquoted

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s media aide, Mr. Tunde Rahman, in a press release, has said, the statement on ‘fighting dirty’, credited to his boss, is very untrue.

Vanguard newspaper, a Nigerian tabloid, in the report headlined, “I’m ready to get dirty – Tinubu”, claimed the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said he is ready to ‘fight dirty’ in the forthcoming 2023 presidential elections.

Media aide Tunde Rahman, said, Vanguard’s newspaper report was not only erroneous but also misleading and that Asiwaju Tinubu was quoted out of context; and so, a “clarification has become imperative.”

Rahman said,

“This caption and report are inaccurate and erroneous …because they are groundless, misinformed and misdirected; hence, this clarification has become imperative.”

Tunde Rahman emphasized that, there is no time during Asiwaju Tinubu’s speech at the Olubadan palace did he make such comment as reported by the media house. He therefore quoted Tinubu’s statement as delivered before the monarch.

“…. I am out to become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and there is a wise saying that, if you want to wrestle with the pig, be ready to get dirty and deal with the poo-poo.”

“I am ready to get dirty. No intimidation, no blackmail, no sort of insult will get me angry to the extent that I will say no more, I don’t want again.”

Spokesman Tunde Rahman urged media organizations to report “accurately and objectively” while also appealing to Nigerians to disregard the inaccurate and negative report credited to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Vanguard news media.
