Days of heavy downpour, especially the constant rainfall on Friday, have flooded some areas in Lagos state, mostly the Marina axis and some other parts of the Lagos State.
We will recall that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as well as the Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency (NIHSA) has earlier warned citizens in flood prone areas of impending flood disaster, which, has been forecast for the year 2021. The agencies also advised occupants of flood prone areas to relocate from the environments in order to avoid the severe impact of this occurrence. It is worth mentioning that it has been forecast that between the months of July to September, there might be constant rainfall that is likely to cause severe damages.
The major cause of flooding in Lagos state and many other parts of the country, have been traced to heavy rainfall made worse by bad drainage channels through which flood water can flow. The problem is heightened by bad roads in some parts of the state.
Some highly probable areas to be affected by flood mentioned by the Lagos state government are: Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos Mainland, Ikorodu, Mushin, Ijora Badia and some other coastal areas within the state.
