Breaking: House of Representatives Plenary Session in Chaos over Electronic Transmission of Results, Speaker Adjourns Plenary

In what looks like another rowdy session today, honourable members of the House of Representatives, have again disagreed over the transmission of election results electronically.

Electronic voting and transmission of results have generated widespread controversies among the Nigerian population in recent times. While many believe that the country is due for this development, because it will curb rigging and manipulation of electoral outcomes, some others, believe that the country is not yet ready for such feat.

To further discuss the amendment of electronic voting and transmission of election results, the Speaker of the House, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, has adjourned the plenary session to tomorrow July 16, by 10am.

Honourable Gbajabiamila also promised to bring the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigerian Communications Commission to the plenary session to discuss section 52 of the constitution as it affect the matter.

It should be recalled that the Southern governors, at a meeting held in Lagos on Monday, 5th July, 2021, frowned at the removal of electronic transmission results from the electoral act.
