Kenyan High Commissioner to Nigeria, Wilfred Machage has openly debunked rumours going around and as reported by some Nigerian newspapers, that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and repatriated from Kenya.
Machage said “I want to address allegation by denying that Kenya was involved in the direct arrest in Kenya and extradition of Nigerian, Mr. Kanu.” Further speaking the High Commissioner stressed, “I want to challenge anyone who has absolute claims to this arrest in Kenya to present this fact. This will include when, how and who was particularly involved in the alleged arrest.”
The High Commissioner affirmed that the rumour is sensational, imaginary and deliberately concocted to spread antagonism freely amongst the southern sections of the Nigerian people against the Kenya people. Machage continued that, and indeed, many countries has been accused; Rwandan, Chez Republic, Britain, Ethiopia and God knows which other countries, he emphasized.
Machage said Kenya has no intention to interfere with Nigeria’s affairs. In his words “we have no intention of interfering with the internal affairs of Nigeria which includes arresting of citizens in matters of privy.” The Commissioner said, “on this case of allege arrest, in Kenya of the Mr. Kanu,” he stressed, “I wish to categorically state here that we are not happy of this ridiculous attempt of dragging the name of Kenya and his excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta on this matter of arrest and extradition of the said Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB leader.
Wilfred Machage reiterated, “I, as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya in the country of Nigeria, wish to categorically emphasize that our two countries Kenya and Nigeria have and will continue to enjoy cordial diplomatic relations with both the federal government of Nigeria and his great accommodative and its amiable citizens.”
The Kenya High Commissioner, Wilfred Machage, however, stressed that the Republic of Kenya is committed to sustaining the historical bonds for friendship that have existed between his country and Nigeria. He also believes that this will further cement the diplomatic relations between the two countries for a mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.
