CAF/FIFA Medical Officer, Dr. Joseph Kabungo Died Of Cardiac Arrest … Match Coordinator

Contrary to the reports that CAF/FIFA Medical Officer, Dr. Joseph Kabungo, on Tuesday, died from injuries sustained after he was beaten by angry Nigerian fans, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, in Abuja, following the 1-1 draw in the match encounter with the Black Stars of Ghana, the General Coordinator for the Super Eagles/Black Stars World Cup playoff, Kabeli Bosilong, has said, the report is untrue as Dr. Kabungo died before the commencement of the match.

According to Bosilong, Dr. Kabungo who was the doping officer for the match, was not at any point beaten or molested by the angry fans, but rather the Zambian doctor died of cardiac arrest, as he slumped while walking towards the dressing room.

Bosilong stated,

“I was the GC for the mentioned match, and yes, it’s true, our beloved doctor is with us no more.”

“Contrary to earlier reports, the doctor had cardiac arrest when he was walking towards the team dressing rooms and he collapsed on the floor.”

“Both team doctors (from Nigeria and Ghana), and other medical personnel administered Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on him, but after a while, he was taken to the hospital and that’s when the terrible news was confirmed.”

“We are all still in shock at what happened last night and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
