President Buhari has finally given up the idea of choosing by himself, the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2023 presidential election, but he has rather left the decision to all aspirants/delegates on the platform of the ruling party.
Buhari, who had initially appealed to all the aspirants to give him the honour of choosing a consensus candidate said, “looking at this assemblage of personalities and considering your rich pedigree of accomplishments in life, I have come to the conclusion that our party, the APC, is rich in human resources and also that our nation is blessed with capable people that can successfully steer the ship of state into the future.”
Stressing the known that the APC presidential primary election will hold between June 6 – 8, President Buhari urged the aspirants/delegates, to carefully pick the one candidate, that will fly the flag of the party in the 2023 Presidential Election with emphasis that “our choice of flag bearer must be formidable, appealing to the electorate across the board, and should command such ability to unify the country, and have the capacity to address our critical challenges.”
The Screening Committee, realizing the fact, has since intensified consultations going by Mr. President’s directives concerning who will be the Party’s recommended consensus candidate without any prejudice.
President Buhari again advised that, to “scale down the anxiety of party members”, the need to choose a formidable candidate, for the stability and unity of APC, cannot be overemphasized.
