A one year, seven months old baby and pupil of Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School, Asaba, Delta State, simply identified as Obinna, has died from injuries inflicted on him by his school’s proprietress, Mrs. Ogbo and her son.
Obinna was reportedly given 31 strokes of cane for playing inside water, and getting his uniform wet.
According to Obinna’s mother, who narrated the story, Proprietress Ogbo, and her unnamed son, tied her son’s legs and hands before mercilessly beating him to coma.
It was the senseless beating that later resulted in Master Obinna’s death, few hours after the incident.
The sad incident which was made known by Ebenezer Omejalile, the Chief Operating Officer, (COO), of Advocates for Children and Vulnerable People’s Network, a human rights group, has been condemned by many Nigerians.
Omejalile, who announced the death of the minor, said, “With a heavy heart, we wish to inform the house that the one year, seven months old baby, finally gave up the ghost this morning.”
Omejalile called on the Ministry of Education Quality Assurance Department, “to rise up to the task of evaluating, and monitoring, the activities of school owners.”
The proprietresses who was arrested but later released, has been re-arrested by the Delta state police command, when baby Obinna finally gave up the ghost.
