Angry motorcycle riders, popularly called ‘okada riders’, at Ajao Estate area of Lagos State, have reportedly killed a senior police officer, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP. Kazeem Abonde, who is in charge of B Operations, Lagos State Police Command.
The murdered police officer is said to be due for retirement few months from now; and that he has planned to begin law practice soon after his retirement having acquire a Master degree in law.
The Lagos incident, which happened on Thursday, September 23rd evening, was as a result of lawlessness on the part of the okada riders deliberately flouting the State’s traffic laws.
Things however, got out of hands, when security operatives tried to impound the motorcycles of traffic offenders which met with strong resistance.
A mobilization of other motorcyclists in the Ajao Estate area, gave the traffic violators opportunity to overpower the police men leading to the death of the CSP. Kazeem Abonde and the vandalization of Area Police Station and the Police patrol van.
While some Police officers sustained injuries, only CSP. Abonde lost his life.
