Daredevil gunmen reportedly opened fire on President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy on Tuesday evening while en route Daura, Katsina state, in preparation for Sallah celebrations.
According to reports, the attacked convoy, deployed in advance ahead of Mr. President’s trip to Daura, was conveying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers to Daura in preparation for President Buhari visit to his hometown for the id el kabir.
Reacting to the development, in a statement made available to newsmen, the presidential aide, Garba Shehu, described the incident as “sad and unwelcome”, and “hailed the Presidential Security Guards for successfully repelling the attack.”
According to Garba Shehu,
“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions, but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.”
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”
The shooting incident was said to have happened near Dutsinma, in Katsina State, few kilometers to Mr. President’s Daura hometown.
