The founder and director, of Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, on Wednesday, has demanded that the Federal Government recognize and declare every first day of the Islamic calendar, known as Hijrah, as a public holiday so that Muslims in the country can join other faithful across the globe celebrate this important Islamic day.
In a news report made available to Daily Post, the MURIC leader lamented how the FG, has often times, ignored calls being made by Islamic organisations across the country demanding a public holiday for Hijrah celebrations.
This year’s Hijrah Day that fell on Monday, August 9th, has again generated outcry from Islamic scholars across the nation, that a holiday break be declared to commemorate the Day; and in order for Nigerian Muslims to join other faithfuls across the globe celebrate the Day.
Prof. Akintola called on Islamic faithfuls in the country, to amplify their voice in demand for a break as the Hijrah Day approaches. He also appealed to Muslims in leadership position to add their voice to the noble course in favour of a Hijrah Day.
“We are calling on all state governors who are Muslims to identify with this noble, peaceful and divinely rewarding struggle by declaring this coming Monday, 9th August, 2021 as Hijrah Day holiday.”
Prof. Akintola said as a matter of urgency, Muslims faithfuls in position of authority let the state and FG know that a day should be set aside for the Hijrah Day.
He therefore, encouraged Islamic organisations and schools to organize events to mark the special day.
The Islamic cleric also believe that Muslims in public offices who refused to promote the Day have questions to answer before Allah for abandoning their faith and their fellow Muslims for worldly gains.
