The Lagos state government, through the Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, has announced the indefinite closure of Dowen College, Lekki, pending the outcome of the investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a student of the school.
In a viral video, late 12-year-old Sylvester was said to have accused some of his school mates of torturing him through beating because he refused to join a ‘cult group’ organized by other students of the school. It was the torture, that eventually resulted in Sylvester Oromoni Jnr. demise
The decision to indefinitely close the school, was therefore reached, after a meeting with the School Management and Staff.
Assistant Director, Public Affairs, of the Ministry of Education, Ganiu Lawal, in a statement, also called for calm, with emphasis that, all necessary efforts will be deployed, to get to the root of the incident.
Mr. Oromoni on Friday, alleged that, because the school was lethargic in responding to concerns since the incident happened, it is likely the accused students, may have fled the country.
