Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has reportedly pulled out of the 2023 presidential race while considering to settle for a senatorial seat.
Recall that, Dave Umahi, shortly after his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), had informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to contest in the 2023 presidential elections.
Umahi’s visit to President Buhari to inform him of his decision, came soon after the APC chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, paid a similar visit to the President to inform him of his decision to run in 2023 general elections as the president of the nation.
However, no one can tell why David Umahi suddenly have a change of mind concerning his presidential bid even after winning the lawsuit filed against him by PDP for defecting to the ruling APC.
It is worth mentioning that, the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, in a unanimous judgement delivered by Justice A. O. Belgore, had upheld that, Umahi and his deputy, Igwe, both have the right to defect to any political party because there is nowhere in the constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, where a sitting governor and/or his deputy cannot defect to another political party.
