Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, has promised to take necessary actions if anything evil happens to ex president Ebele Goodluck Jonathan.
This is IYC’s reaction to the narrow escape of the former president from an accident on Wednesday which could have claimed his life; but through which unfortunately, two of his aides died.
The statement signed by the Council’s National President, Peter Timothy Igbifa, who wrote from Port Harcourt, Rivers state, reads in part:
“It is obvious that some people are after the former President. They want him dead. And we believe it is not unconnected with the constant appearance of his name in the forthcoming 2023 election.
“To such satanic agents, the only way to stop the rumoured plot to return Jonathan back to Aso Rock in 2023 is to eliminate him. We know in Nigeria, there is nothing desperate politicians, who see others as a threat to their ambitions, cannot do.
“We can swallow all the insults and marginalisation thrown at us as a people but what we cannot take is making attempts on the lives of our icons.
“Therefore, those who are against the return of Jonathan to Aso Rock should explore other peaceful ways to stop him instead of resorting to violence that can plunge the entire country into endless crisis.
“This is the same with any Niger Deltan contesting for the office of President across political parties. Don’t attempt to take their lives rather, defeat them politically.
“We are calling on security agencies to rise up to their responsibilities and beef up security around the former President. They should probe this accident and make public the circumstances that led to it. The blood of our hero cannot be used to settle political scores.”
Igbifa, while praising the two aides that lost their lives to the accident for their act of bravery in protecting the former president’s life, called on security agencies to probe the cause of the accident, because to the Council, the accident was indeed a premeditated attempt by some conspirator to end the life of the former president even before the 2023 election year.
The aides were said, according to another statement issued by Goodluck Jonathan shortly after the occurrence, confirmed that the two aides “died within the vicinity of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.”
However, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has credited the cause of the accident to likely “over speeding.”
Nevertheless, the Abuja Sector Commander of FRSC, Samuel Ogar Ochi, has assured a full-scale investigation into the cause of the accident which he said officers of the Corps have already started.
“I got the information about the crash and swung into action by proceeding to the National Hospital to confirm the status of the victims.”
“What we gathered was that, the vehicle was going at a particular speed that made it possible for the driver to lose control. That is the picture we are still having.”
The Sector Commander reiterated that, the detail of the crash will be made available as soon as investigation to the cause of the accident is concluded.
