Minister of Police Affairs Maigari Dingyadi, has announced the 20 percent salary increment for police personnel across the country.
The announcement came on Wednesday, after the Federal Executive Council meeting, presided over by President Buhari, in Abuja.
The Police Affairs Minister Dingyadi, disclosed that, the salary review is in response to one of the demands made by EndSARS protesters, in 2020, when they called for improved welfare for police officers.
He confirmed that, the 20% increments will take effect from January 2022.
Maigari Dingyadi, said, the Federal Executive Council approved N1.12 billion for payment of outstanding uninsured benefits for the period of 2013 to 2020 for Police officers, and also N13.1 billion, for payment of outstanding death benefits of 5,472 police personnel, for the uninsured period of 2013, to August 2021.
President Buhari, who was present at the meeting, said, the salary upgrade is necessary for peace and harmony in the country; adding that, the salary upgrade will be commensurate to services rendered by police officials.
