A statement by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, has revealed that five (5) university undergraduates were among those arrested by the Agency during the last one week.
Spokesman Babafemi said the arrested undergraduates are students of: American University of Nigeria, (AUN), Yola; Adamawa State University, Mubi; and University of Maiduguri, in Borno state.
He said two of the students, from the University of Maiduguri, in Borno state, Emmanuel Thlama, and Jonah Joshua, were arrested with 16.8 kilogrammes of cannabis on the night of Tuesday, November 30th, when the anti-narcotic operatives raided a settlement opposite Gate 4 of the University.
Babafemi also stated that, three (3) other suspects nabbed are: Ekene Asher, Daniel Alkali, and Emmanuel Smooth; all undergraduate students of AUN. They were arrested around 11:30pm on Thursday 2nd of December, after taking delivery of Loud, a strong variant of cannabis, ordered by one of the students, Ekene Asher, just for them to smoke.
Other arrests were in Ondo state, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger state, Delta state, and Enugu state, during when different variants and kilogramme of drugs were seized and offenders arrested.
In a similar situation, a 72-year-old, Emmanuel Akanbi, was arrested with 2,050 kilogrammes of cannabis, at the Odofin camp, Uso, Owo local government area; and another 44-year-old father of three, Gabriel Patrick for ingesting 96 pellets of cocaine, which he excreted while in the custody of NDLEA in Abuja.
