The 80-year-old mother of the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government (SSG), Madam Betinah Benson have again been abducted on Tuesday night, by some unknown gunmen at the Old Legislative Quarters, Yenogoa, the state capital.
Her abductors, who eye witnesses said were men camouflaged in military uniforms, whisked the octogenarian away at about 11 pm, while she cried for help.
Reports on different news platforms, also established that, this will be the second time Madam Betinah Benson will be kidnapped. Her first experience in the hands of her abductor being January 2013, and another, eight years after.
The Bayelsa state police command spokesperson, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incidence in a statement titled ‘kidnap of Madam Betinah Benson’ said “Madam Betinah, 80 years, was kidnapped on 20th July 2021, at about 2300 hours at her residence at Old Legislative Quarters, Azikoro road, Yenagoa.
Butswat emphasized that, the state Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli and other detectives have visited the scene of the abduction while a manhunt has been launched to rescue the victim.
Hon. Friday Benson, the present Bayelsa SSG, under Governor Douye Diri led administration, was also a former speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
