International football body sets to introduce ‘blue card’

Just as yellow and red cards were introduced to the football game in 1970, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), is now working towards introducing the ‘blue card’ for offenses not strong enough for a red card.

According to reports, the blue card will “only be used for dissent or cynical fouls that stop a promising attack, but without necessarily being that dangerous.”

Reports further have it that, “a combination of two blue cards, or a blue and a yellow card, in one game, could then lead to a red card later;” the same way two yellow cards lead to a red under current football rules.

The announcement to confirm this new football rule, is expected to be made public on Friday, according to reports.
