The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), in a released video, revealed how its fighters invaded the Tukur Yusufu Buratai Institute for War and Peace (TBI), in Borno state, shooting sporadically.
TBI is a research Institute of the Nigerian Army University, located at Buratai Village, in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
In the video, ISWAP was seen pulling down and destroyed flags sited at the entrance of the school.
According to sources, the insurgents stormed the community on Monday evening, “in large numbers, shooting RPGs, and anti-aircraft guns.”
A total number of four cars were also said to be burnt by the invaders.
Sources again confirmed that, most residents in the area have fled to a neighbouring town, Moringa, in the Biu LGA of the state.
Reacting to this in a statement, the management of the Research Institute stated that, two civilians lost their lives during the attack; but that normalcy has since returned to the area.
The statement also confirmed that,
“two civilian staff of the Institute lost their lives” and that the “management commiserate with families of the fallen staff.”
While commending the gallant efforts of the troops on ground, the authorities of the Institution said, “the Institute remains 100% operational as security has been beefed up in the general area.”
