Contrary to the Catholic Broadcast Commission in Nigeria Facebook post that Bishop Mathew Kukah’s Sokoto state residence has been set ablaze by rioters, Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of the state’s diocese, has debunked the viral posts on social media.
According to Revd. Father Kukah, “No, they did not burn my residence.” My Sokoto home is intact contrary to the report.
Mathew Kukah’s home was erroneously reported by the CBC to have been set ablaze after he called for justice for Miss. Deborah Yakubu, a 200-level Home Economics student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State, who was gruesomely and unjustly killed by a mob of Muslim youths on the grounds of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto state police command has condemned the barbaric, unjust and gruesome murder of the 200 level student, and has reported that, two suspects had been taken into their custody in connection with Deborah’s killing.
