The abducted Methodist Prelate, His Eminence, Samuel Kanu-Uche, and two other clergymen kidnapped along Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia state, have regained their freedom.
This was confirmed in the statement issued by the Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Ifeanyi Madu which was signed by the council secretary, Mr. Peter Uba. It reads:
“The Chairman joyfully wish to announce the release of His Eminence, Dr. SCK Uche JP, the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria and his entourage from their abductors.“
The Lay President of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Sir Ifeanyi Okechukwu, also confirmed the release with these words:
“The prelate is currently in a church giving praises to God. Details coming soon.”
His Eminence, Samuel Kanu-Uche, and two other priests were abducted on Sunday, May, 29; after which the kidnappers demanded for a N100 million ransom.
It is however not stated if the requested N100 million was paid to the kidnappers before the clergymen regained their freedom.
