Just In:  FG, NBC, Order Suspension of Channels TV

Although, it is not clear why the Federal Government, NBC, ordered the suspension of Channels Television license, Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist, has taken to his Facebook page to make assertions that, the FG called for the suspension of Channel TV license, because of the interview the TV station granted Governor Ortom of Benue State and the Retired Naval Commodore Kunle Olawunmi over the rising cases of insecurity in the country; in particular, the recent attack of the foremost military university, the Nigerian Defence Academy, Afaka, Kaduna State.

Activist Sowore also said that, the FG of Nigeria, reportedly ordered for the arrest of Chamberlain Usoh, a co-host on Sunrise daily and his colleagues, anchors of the program at Channels.

Sowore claimed that: “…President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to suspend Channels Television.

“Sowore, in a post on Facebook, disclosed that the President made the order over an interview of Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom and Rtd. Naval Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi.

Sowore wrote: “Criminal Muhammadu Buhari reportedly orders NBC to go after Channels Television license to be suspended by the Federal Government of Nigeria over interview of Gov. Ortom and Retired Naval Commodore Kunle Olawunmi.”

“Reportedly ordered for the arrest of Chamberlain Usoh, Co-Host on Sunrise Daily and his colleagues, anchors of the program at Channels.”

“They are to be brought to Abuja tomorrow! Let’s be vigilant and stand with these journalists. Muhammadu Buhari will be defeated and ultimately disgraced out of power.”

We will recall that, on Wednesday, August 25, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, during an interview session on Channel TV, openly said, sponsors of Boko Haram terrorists are within the Buhari led government, because according to him, the terrorists mentioned names of current governors, senators, and State House officials, as their sponsors, during an interrogation session with some arrested members of the group; but, that President Muhammadu Buhari has not gone after the high-profile politicians mentioned by the BH, for reasons best known to him.

Commodore Olawunmi also described the Tuesday, August 24, attack of the NDA, as an ‘aberration’, in particular, gaining access to the staff quarters, during when two military officers were killed, one wounded, and another kidnapped. He also blamed the NDA authorities for not being cautious, and for carelessly opening its doors to the public, especially, for Friday Jumat prayers.

In his words, “It is an aberration; you don’t attack the Nigerian Defence Academy and get away with it ….

He continued,

“In 2017, I carried out an investigation about happenings in the NDA on the trainings and security situation within the campus, as ordered by the then Minister of Defence, I remember that after spending about a week in the NDA, interacting with the commandant and the staff, something struck me. Every Friday, the gate of NDA is thrown open, and everybody has access to pray in the mosque.

“On Fridays, you are going to see same thing happening across all military formations in the country… If you go to Defence Headquarters, I served at the Defence Headquarters as the Deputy Director, Defence Administration between 2015 and 2017; throughout my two years at the Defence Headquarters, I received visitors twice, because of the strict security architecture there. But, every Friday, the gate of the Defence Headquarters is thrown wide open for everybody to come in and observe Jumat.

“That is the time the terrorists have the time to profile our security environment. It has always been the case. I have served the military intelligence for the past 35 years. Our problem is religion and socio-cultural”, he concluded.

Rtd. Commodore Olakunle Olawunmi, a military intelligence veteran with 35 years’ experience spilled it all and says he doesn’t care if he is killed.

He said,

“I belong to a group in the Military that’s not supposed to be seen or heard. Right now, I don’t care if I am eliminated.”

The Naval Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi, cum Professor of Global Security Studies, added that, the government doesn’t want journalists to report the true picture of what is happening in the country; and so, directed the media to call terrorists, ‘bandits and/or unknown gun men’, to mislead the international community.

He is however, optimistic that, people (gunmen) that attacked the NDA, will be apprehended, but emphasized that, there must be an insider collaboration that aided the invasion.

He stressed that, the solution to the incessant menace is, by identifying the center of gravity, that is, the sponsors of Boko Haram and Bandits, which he believes the Nigerian government knows who they are.

He appealed to the Buhari led administration to change its policy, apprehend the sponsors of BH and bring them to justice.
