Just In: Former NADECO Chieftain, Senator Biyi Durojaiye, Is Dead

An ex Chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), and a fourth (4th) Republic Senator, who represented Ogun East constituency, on the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD), Senator Biyi Durojaye, is dead.

 

Biyi Durojaiye, was said to have died on Monday, August 23, 2021, in Lagos, after a brief illness. He was aged 88.

 

Durojaiye, studied Economics in London, where he got a BSc degree, and later a LLB also in London. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1979; and later became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.  He was likewise, a graduate of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Nigeria.

 

At different times, he worked as a public servant, and rose to the position of a Director, at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and later the National Mint.

 

Late Biyi Durojaiye also worked with, the International Monetary Fund, IMF, the Federal Reserve System in the United States of America (USA), and the City University London; all between 1964 and 1982.

 

In 1992, Senator Durojaiye, was a Presidential candidate, on the platform of Social Democratic Party, but he lost to the late Moshood Abiola.

 

Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye was again, a one-time Chairman, Board of Commissioners, for Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

 

In 1996, Olabiyi Durojaiye was arrested under the military regime of late General Sani Abacha. He was imprisoned for 560 days and Amnesty International campaigned for his release being a prisoner of conscience.
