A group of terrorists, known as gunmen, that invaded the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Afaka, Kaduna, early hours of Tuesday, August 24, have contacted the Institution’s authorities, demanding for N200 million, as ransom, for the freedom of the kidnapped officer, identified as Major Stephen Dantong.
SarahReports gathered that, during the invasion by men on motorbikes, in a well – coordinated attack, that lasted for hours, without any reprisal from any quarter within the Defence Academy, two soldiers were reportedly killed. They are identified as, Lieutenant Commodore Wulah and Flight Lieutenant Okoronwo.
2Lt Onah was also said to have sustained a gunshot injury during the gunmen operations. While he is currently receiving treatment in the Academy Medical Centre, Major Dantong whereabouts is yet to be known as the gunmen cum kidnappers cum bandits, abducted him.
SarahReports again confirmed that, the attackers left without any trail; as all attempts by men of the Nigerian Army to track them, using all available techniques, including hovering helicopters, proved abortive.
NDA spokesman, Major Bashir Muhd Jajira, who had earlier confirmed the attack in a press statement, said, “the security architecture of the NDA was compromised by unknown gunmen who gained access into the residential area within the Academy in Afaka.
“During the unfortunate incident, we lost two personnel and one was abducted,” he stressed.
NDA, located on Kaduna-Lagos highway, about 10 kilometers away from the Kaduna city center, is a premier military university, that trains officers for the armed forces of Nigeria, and for some other African countries.
Efforts to reach Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, on the matter has been unsuccessful, and he is yet to make any official statement concerning the incidence as at the time of this report.
