Just In: No Coronation of A Sultan In Edo State, It is Against Our Traditions… Gov. Obaseki

The Edo state government, under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, has issued a letter of warning to persons or a group of individuals, who had planned the installation of one Iddris Addano as the ‘Sultan of Shuwa Arab’ in the State.

In a letter titled: “Edo State Government Statement On The Planned Coronation Of A ‘Sultan’ In Edo State”, dated 19th August, 2021, and signed by the Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, Esq., the leadership of the State frowned at the planned inauguration of a Sultan (Shuwa Arab) in Edo state; adding that, “it is a potential threat to the peace and security of Edo State with the capacity to cause breakdown of law and order…”

The state government also affirmed that, the purported enthronement of a Sultan in the State will “constitute a direct assault on the traditions, custom and culture of the people of Edo state”, with emphasis that, the government will take a “firm and decisive action, to prevent the actualization of this illegal and sacrilegious act”.

The letter also stated clearly that, “all persons found to have been involved in the conception and/or execution of same would face the full wrath of the law.”
