These are not friendly times for the former governor of Anambra state who recently left office for Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to take over.
Willie Obiano, who on vacation of office on Thursday, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the offense bothering on ₦17billion fraud while serving as a governor, has also been indicted by the Commission for some suspicious projects his administration handled, which includes, the much-celebrated Umueri International Airport project, whose cost was believed to have been over inflated by the ex governor.
The ₦17bn alleged fraud, being Paris Club refund and security vote, was reportedly pocketed by governor Obiano without using it for the intended purposes while in office.
According to EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, Wilie Obiano was arrested Thursday night, few hours after he handed over to the new Anambra governor, Chukwuma Soludo on his way to the United States.
Spokesperson Uwujaren confirmed to pressmen that, the former Anambra state governor, has been transferred to Abuja on Friday morning, contrary to reports that he has been released by the Commission.
“He’s still with the commission. He was even transferred from Lagos to Abuja this morning.”
Uwujaren, however, did not reveal if the ex-governor’s wife, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, who almost marred Prof. Soludo’s swearing in ceremony with her barbaric behaviour, was arrested alongside with him.
