The Oyo state Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of Rt. Revd. Oluwaseun Aderogba, the Bishop of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, (Jebba Diocese), alongside his wife, by some unknown gunmen.
According to the statement issued by the Oyo state Police command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP. Adewale Osifeso, Bishop Aderogba and his wife, according to sources, were abducted on Sunday, along Ogbomoso-Oyo road, while trying to fix their faulty vehicle.
SP. Osifeso stated that, it was one Revd. Adekunle Adeluwa, also of the Anglican communion, who reported the incident to the Atiba Divisional Police headquarters, in Oyo state, at about 8:30pm on Sunday.
PPRO Osifeso stated:
“The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations of the Command is in Charge of the rescue operation that has commenced since 2100HRS of Sunday 12/06/2022.
“All the tactical teams of the Command Anti-Kidnapping squad, Ambush Squad, Puff Adder, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CU) and Conventional Police personnel along with local hunters and vigilantes, are all involved in the rescue operations.”
SP. Osifeso however emphasized that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is at the same time, carrying out a ‘discreet operation’ to ensure that the victims are rescued unhurt.
While urging residents of the Oyo community to go about their lawful activities, Osifeso also urged them to report any suspicious movement to the nearest Police Division.
