Pastor Tunde Bakare: I Don’t Have Anything Against Bishop Oyedepo, I wish Him Well and He Wishes Me Well Too

The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, CGCC, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has deflated the misconception that himself and Bishop Oyedepo of Living Faith Ministry a.k.a Winners’ Chapel, are at logger heads.

Pastor Bakare, debunked this, during an interview session with Sam Omatseye’s on his programme, ‘The Platform’, monitored by SarahReports on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

Bakare said,

“I remember Bishop Oyedepo, telling me, ‘you tore my book in the open’; and I said, ‘Bishop, you’re smarter than that.  I didn’t tear your book. You wrote it, I bought it, I tore my book!’ I tore it because it was full of error; because of what he said that, anointing oil is not the symbol of the Holy Spirit, but that, it is the life of God inside the bottle…’

In Bakare’s opinion, Oyedepo misled the people by making such assertion that, ‘anointing oil is not the symbol of the Holy Spirit, but the life of God inside the bottle’, and to him, it is a misinterpretation of the word of God.

“I mean, you derail so many people.  If it is true to few people, it is okay. But you publish it; I bought it, and my members are reading it. And I will sit down? No. No. No.

Bakare continued,

“If anointing oil is the Holy Spirit, then Jesus is a lamb walking in four legs. They are symbols; and symbols are not as important as the real thing. That’s all; and we’ve put that behind us; I wish him well and his family and he wishes me well too.

Pastor Bakare also emphasized that, he has no issue against any man of God, Bishop Oyedepo inclusive, but that he is only defending the truth about the gospel.

“…we can defend the gospel but those who do not discern the truth, will die before their time. I have nothing personal against any man of God. But by the grace of God, I will always defend the truth, and I know I will make it plain. Two cannot walk together except they agree, that all.

Still on Bishop Oyedepo, Pastor Bakare said,

“I remember that day, we were in the plane, I was eating and he (Oyedepo) came over to my seat, and one of my daughters in the faith was coming to greet me… and she saw me and she froze.  And I said, no, there is difference between issues and persons.

Referring to the Bible,

“And don’t forget that, there was such a sharp difference between Barnabas and Paul. Paul went his way eventually, and Barnabas went with Mark, and Paul said, it not profitable.  But later, because Barnabas worked with Mark, he said it is profitable for ministry. God used both of them in different ways to expand the frontiers of His kingdom… as long as they’re bringing the truth.

Bakare stressed,

“But when you begin to twist it (the truth), to make it look funny, some of us will speak out. And it is a true friend that speaks truth to his friend. Flatterers will die before their time. When you speak truth, eventually when truth begins to move, there will be no traces of falsehood…

When asked about his relationship with other Christian clerics, Bakare said, “I get along with other pastors.” He added that Pastor E.A. Adeboye, of Redeemed Christian Church of God, and Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, are his fathers in Lord, having worked at different times under each ministry. But that, Bishop Oyedepo and himself are contemporaries, born the same year.

Pastor Tunde Bakare, however, enjoined gospel preachers, to be careful of what they call prosperity.  He said,

“Joseph was in prison, he had no dime. Joseph was thrown into prison, he had no bank account. But the Bible says the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man. Let us be careful of prosperity without purpose. With the presence of the Lord in the life of the believer, and if he embraces that presence, and he is taught well, he will eventually prosper.”
