Petrol Souvenir: Lagos State Govt Condemns Action, Socialite Erelu Ogbulu Apologizes

The Lagos state government has condemned the distribution of premium motor spirit (pms) known as petrol or fuel in Nigeria at a Lagos party organized by a socialite in the state, Pearl Chidinma Ogbulu.

Kegs of petrol, with the label of the socialite were seen making rounds on the social media as they were being distributed to guests at the party which took place at Havillah Event Place, Oniru, Lagos state.

Reacting to the surprising episode, Lagos state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement, said,

“The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to a video showing kegs of petrol being handed out as souvenirs at an event centre in Lagos. The video has gone viral on the social media.”

“There is no doubt that this action is dangerous and can lead to loss of lives and property. It is blatantly against all safety measures in such places.”

Socialite Ogbulu, in her defense, said, she shared petrol as souvenirs at her chieftaincy installation, as the Erelu Okin of Orile Kemta, as a token of her appreciation to guests present at the event especially at what she referred to “at these hard times.”

She however, on her Instagram page, apologized for her actions calling it a “momentarily indiscretion…”

In her words,

It was a “momentarily indiscretion of bringing fuel souvenirs into the hall.”

“My intent was just to show appreciation to my guests for turning up at my event at these

hard times.”

“I have paused to reflect and truly apologize, and I thank you all for your understanding and criticisms.”
