Religion, Ethnicism Responsible For Nigeria’s Conflicts … Onyeama

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has attributed the problems of insecurity and incessant killing of innocent Nigerians to religious manipulations and communal beliefs which is detrimental to the social well-being of the society.

Speaking as a special guest on Tuesday in Abuja, during the opening of the ‘National Policy Roundtable on the Network of Policy Makers” a programme designed to support reconciliation, peace and security in Nigeria, Onyeama emphasized that, “Religion and communal living are painted as fundamentals” and that regrettably, these can be “inimical to peace, security and development” of our society.

Onyeama is also of the opinion that, Nigeria has been awash with tragic instances of violent conflict and acrimony that had erupted from religious manipulation and ethnicity since the country gained independence.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs therefore condemned using religious beliefs and ethnicity as tools of conflicts in the society.
