Shocking: Nursing Mother Collapses From Days Without Food… Dr. Obiora Okonkwo Gives Support

Amara Nwachukwu, the woman who hawks sachet water, at the Ndida Market in Okpoko, Onitsha, in Anambra state, was said to have collapsed as a result of days without food.

 

According to the Champion newspaper, “The woman, who had her baby strapped to her back, was rushing to buy a bag of sachet water, which sells for N200, when she collapsed under the weight of hunger.”

 

The starving woman narrated how she and her son last had a meal of soaked garri on Monday night. This made her lost her balance, and afterwards, collapsed onto the dirty, muddy road, right in the vicinity of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, while she was trying to make quick sales to the crowd who had gathered to witness the flag off of a road contract.

 

She said, rushing to buy and to make a quick sales of the sachet water, will enable her make a small amount of profit, from which she hopes to get money to feed her baby, and herself.

 

Moved to tears, the Anambra state governorship candidate, under the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dr. Obiora  Okonkwo, who was present to flag off the road contract in the area, when the incident happened, was said to have given the indigent woman a cash gift of N200,000, to enable her start-up a trade; after  ordering a quick fix meal to revive her.

 

Sources also confirmed that, Dr. Okonkwo gave directives that, the woman and her baby be given a comprehensive health check on his bill; while again advising the presiding priests, over the Catholic church, to see to her welfare.

 

While no one can tell if this is another political gimmick, or a mere coincidence, the ZLP governorship candidate expressed optimism that, the story of Anambra indigenes would change for good, if he is given the opportunity to govern them.

 

ZLP governorship candidate Dr. Okonkwo, was however, quick to add that, the incident between himself and the starving woman was not just about politics, but about helping humanity, a gesture he promised to keep doing, election or no election.
