Toyin Abraham: who did this to me? ‘Malaika’ pirated?

Popular Nigerian movie actress, director, and producer, Toyin Abraham, has lamented how her close to N500 million movie ‘Malaika’ was pirated by hackers.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Toyin explained how she had suffered panic attacks on hearing the news, which eventually led to her hospitalization.

However, report said, some suspects have been arrested linked to the pirated movie.

The report read: “The Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, said, it had arrested five suspects, including two women, over the alleged piracy of the movie.”

According to Assistant Superintendent, Aminat Mayegun, spokesperson for FCID, the suspects, paraded before newsmen, at the Department, were allegedly “involved in conspiracy, infringement on intellectual property, piracy and cyber-related crimes.”

Mayegun also affirmed that, the suspects unlawfully used the cyberspace to broadcast the movie.

She then revealed how the Special Investigation Units of the Anti-Fraud and Cybercrime Sections of the Department, launched ‘unique intelligence’ to get the perpetrators of the alleged crime following the petitioners complaint.
