The unpleasant drama that ensued at Professor Soludo’s swearing in ceremony, between Ebelechukwu Obiano, wife of the former Anambra state governor, and Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, wife of the ex governor of the Eastern region, and Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain and Ghana at different times, may not be forgotten in a hurry.
Contrary to earlier news reports that, it was Mrs. Obiano that slapped Mrs. Ojukwu, it has been made clear shortly afterwards by Bianca Ojukwu that, she was the one that actually slapped Ebelechukwu Obiano for her barbaric behaviour.
Speaking for the first time after the incident, the former first lady Ebele Obiano said, she had only left her seat to greet Mrs. Ojukwu in a friendly manner but little did she know she will receive a dirty slap for her warm greetings.
According to the statement released over the weekend by Mrs. Obiano’s spokesperson, Chidiebele Obika, the former Governor’s wife said, “all she did was approach the former beauty queen for their usual friendly banters only to be slapped and pushed by her.”
Spokesperson Obika said, Mrs. Obiano after receiving the dirty slap, in place of a friendly gesture, wondered what brought about “so much anger and hate” that would have warranted a former diplomat and an ex beauty queen to be so unruly as not to be able to “manage herself in public.”
Mrs. Obiano, whose husband is still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for mismanaging public funds while in office, said “she didn’t bother returning the slap, instead she walked away in utter bewilderment.”
Again, contrary to Ebelechukwu Obiano’s claims, the video of the incident that has since gone viral online, showed how Mrs. Obiano angrily left her seat to where Mrs. Ojukwu was seated, and started ranting using unprintable language.
But for some dignitaries present, the situation would have gone worse even after the temporary disruption of the event.
Although Prof. Soludo, on behalf of the former First Ladies have apologized to the people of Anambra state and Nigerians, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu nevertheless, blamed Mrs. Obiano for her unthinkable action because according to Bianca, Ebele was already drunk, smelling with whisky at that hour of the day, before approaching her in the most uncivilized manner which led to her slapping the former First Lady of the state.
