UI’s PhD Student, Felix Oludare Ajiola, Wins 2nd Edition Of ‘Rahamon Bello Best PhD Thesis Award’

Felix Oludare Ajiola, a Ph.D student of the Department of History, in the prestigious University of Ibadan, has clinched the 2nd edition of the ‘Rahamon Bello, Best PhD Thesis Award,’ for his work titled: “Cocoa Production and Rural Development in Idanre, Southwestern Nigeria: 1900 – 1996.”

 

The announcement came on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 following his declaration as the winner of the award, at the UNILAG Faculty of Arts Board Room.

 

Supervisor of the project, Professor O. C. Adesina, is the current Head of Department, (HOD), of History, and the former Director of General Studies, of the University of Ibadan. He is also a Fellow of Nigeria Academy of Letters, (FNAL)

 


Felix Oludare Ajiola, who is currently teaching History at the University of Lagos, (UNILAG), is expected to be at the award presentation ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, (IADS), UNILAG, by 11:00 am.

 

The ‘Rahamon Bello, Best PhD Thesis Award,’ is to encourage and appreciate the hard work of intellectuals, whose PhD theses address African and Diaspora issues, as well as, promote intellectual, and multi-disciplinary research works, in African Studies.

 

Dr. Adebayo Kudus Oluwatoyin, a sociologist, and research fellow at the Institute of African Studies, also of the University of Ibadan, emerged as the winner of the 1st edition of the Award, in 2020.

 

The Rahamon Bello Award, named in honour of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Rahaman Bello, who is the major sponsor of the award, attracts US$1,000 (about N560,000 at the current dollar rate in Nigeria)
