The United Kingdom, UK, has announced its intention to remove Nigeria from its red list, with effect from Wednesday, December 15th.
The travel restrictions, which was imposed on some African countries, including Nigeria, over fears of the Omicron variant of Covid 19, generated widespread condemnation; which resulted in the lift of the ban starting from 4:00am on Wednesday.
Consequently, all passengers arriving England, UK, are expected to self-isolate at home for 10 days to avoid the spread of the Omicron virus, but If double vaccinated, they can be released; but a negative PCR test must be taken within two days of arrival.
This is according to UK’s health secretary, Sajid Javid, who said the matter was laid to rest on Tuesday, after the parliament decision.
Recall that, UK had not only restricted countries on its red list from entry, but it also placed a temporary suspension on issuance and reviewing of visitors’ visa applications from the restricted countries, including Nigeria.
