Woman Rescued From Suicide On Lagos Third Mainland Bridge

An unnamed woman, who was trying to jump into the lagoon on Thursday, at the outward end of Iyana Oworo (Mainland-bound) bridge, was rescued by officers of the Nigerian Police Rapid Response squad, (RRS), who were on patrol on the Third Mainland Bridge.

According to eyewitnesses, it was a dispatch rider, who saw the woman trying to jump into the Lagos lagoon, that alerted the security officers on duty; who raced to the scene to stop her.

During a brief conversation with the woman, she said, “I was beaten at home, that is why I ran away to commit suicide.”

The yet to be identified woman did not however, mention the name(s) of those maltreating her at home, before the police officers took her to the Iyana Oworo police division for further interrogation.

All effort to reach her family members is now in progress.
