Ph.D. Holder Nigerian Tech Expert, David Gbodi Odaibo, Dies in His Sleep Shortly After Bagging A $125 Million U.S Govt. Contract

Nigerian Ph.D. holder and tech wizard, who was a ‘Kaggle Grandmaster, the highest attainable skill level in practical Machine Learning’, David Gbodi Odaibo, has died.

David Odaibo, 42, who lived in Hoover, Alabama, USA, was said to have died in his sleep, shortly after winning a U.S. government contract worth millions of dollars.

 

He was said to have died of cardiac arrhythmia/heart attack while sleeping.

 

His brother, Mr. Stephen Odaibo, the CEO of Retina-AI Health Incorporation, announced this via the social media platform.

CEO Stephen Odaibo, via the medium, narrated how his brother had died in his sleep, a week after being awarded a contract by the U.S. government worth $125 million (₦68.7bn).

 

Stephen Odaibo said,

“My brother, David Gbodi Odaibo, passed away yesterday. My heart is broken. He had a cardiac arrhythmia/heart attack in his sleep. He was fully vaccinated and did not have Covid. He and I were so close. He was only 42.

 

He continued,

“David was kind, gentle, brilliant, and humble.

Using the language of technology, CEO Odaibo explained,

“He had a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, and was a Kaggle Grandmaster, the highest attainable skill level in practical Machine Learning. He introduced me to Al.

“The algorithm he wrote for automatically detecting threats at Airports just won a $125 Million contract from Department of Homeland security about 1 week ago. His code beat out companies backed by Billions of dollars. So, in the future when you safely fly the skies, please remember my brother David.

 

He lamented,

“Our hearts are broken. My poor parents, his wife, and two young children. His 4 siblings. We are devastated.

“David and I were tremendously aligned in our interests and would often talk for hours. Our connection was rare and precious. We ended phone conversations with ‘love you.’

“Hug your loved ones and tell them you love them.”

 

Mr. Stephen Odaibo, however, believed that, his brother is resting in perfect peace. He affirmed,

“Though there may be sorrow in the night, joy comes in the morning. I’m comforted that David is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

  1. May his gentle soul rest in peace. We are only in this world to add positive values that will benefit mankind and that God has given him the time to accomplish . It is not how far but how well, RIP as one of the world’s genii.
