“APGA as a party says no to EFCC media trial of former governor Obiano, because injustice to one is an injustice to all.”
The above was the opinion of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after the arrest of the ex Anambra governor by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for offense bothering on misappropriation of public funds meant for the state use.
Apart from allegedly mismanaging over ₦17bn Paris Club refund and security vote, Willie Obiano was also being probed for some suspicious projects, including the much-celebrated Umueri International Airport project whose cost was believed to be over inflated.
APGA National Coordinator Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, speaking on behalf of the party, described the arrest of the former governor as “politically-motivated witch-hunt.”
Obigwe said the Anti Graft agency dented the hard-earned reputation of the former banker, and governor of Anambra state and that Obiano remains innocent until proven otherwise by a law court.
Obiano was arrested Thursday night, few hours after he handed over to the new Anambra state governor, Chukwuma Soludo on his way to the United States by EFCC.
