Insecurity: Sowore’s Brother, Olajide, Murdered In Edo State By Unknown Gunmen

Olajide Felix Sowore, younger brother of the Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has been shot dead.

 

Mr. Olajide Sowore was murdered early hours of Saturday, September 4, by some yet to be identified gunmen on the Benin-Ore Highway.

 

The undergraduate student of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, was said to have been killed on his way to Benin City from school, where he was studying Pharmacy.

 

Omoyele Sowore, who needs no introduction in Nigeria, took to the social media to break the sad news. He said:

“My immediate younger brother, Olajide Sowore was today shot and killed near Okada in Edo state by reportedly herdsmen /kidnappers on his way from Igbinedion University in Edo sate where he was studying Pharmacy.

 

“They snuffed out the life of yet another real human being!
Rest In Power, “Dr. Mamiye!”
This act in itself will not delay their day of justice.
I traveled widely with you and our father as a little kid. You were the most loved robust kid I ever first knew. You, Mr. magnet had no enemy!

“You, Mr. Sunshine Foundation who made everyone happy.

“You, the boy who snuck out his older ones to parties, taking all the blames when our disciplinarian father found out.
You, the guy who was an out-of-the-box thinker who decided school wasn’t for you and created you own genre of music and then turned around to go to school after you almost turned 50!

“You lived your life so that everyone could be alright but now assassinated by everything that’s not alright!

 

Reacting to the incident, the Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, in his condolence message to the Sowore’s family said, it was sad that a young man would be cut down in his prime by some criminal elements and promised the family that he will ensure that, the law-enforcement agents track down the killers of Olajide Sowore and bring them to justice.

 

Festus Keyamo, also urged the human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore to take heart and to remain committed to helping the nation. He said,

“I read with deep sadness the reports on the senseless killing of your younger brother, Mr Jide Sowore, a student of pharmacy at Igbinedion University, Okada, in Edo State, this morning.

 

“It is quite sad and regrettable that such a young man would be cut down in his prime by criminal elements.

 

“Myself and other compatriots would be pressurising the law-enforcement agents to track down these killers without delay and bring them to justice. This, and many others around the country, must be checkmated with all arsenals at our disposal.

 

“I urge you to take heart and remain committed to helping the nation find a lasting solution to some of these numerous challenges.”

‘Yele Sowore, also reported that, the Divisional Police Officer of the Okada Police Station, confirmed that, Olajide Felix Sowore was murdered in cold blood by bloodthirsty herdsmen.

 

Omoyele Sowore reiterated,

“Felix Olajide Sowore, my immediate younger brother, who is a student of Pharmacy at Igbinedion University in Edo, killed today by persons suspected to be herdsmen near Okada. Saddest day yet!

 

“I just heard the sad news. The DPO of Okada Police station just confirmed to our family that he was shot by herdsmen operating as kidnappers.”

Needless to say however, that the Saturday morning sad incident, has thrown the Sowore’s family into mourning.
