CAN Frowns At FG’s Directives To Reduce Gatherings To 50 Percents During Yuletide Season

Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has condemned Federal Government’s move to reduce religious gatherings during this festive period to 50 percent.

FG through the Presidential Steering Committee, PSC, on Covid 19, on Thursday, December 22nd, had announced that, indoors religious gatherings should not exceed 50 percent.

In addition, the PSC said, even with the allowed 50 percent, all Covid 19 guidelines must be strictly adhered to.

According to PSC Chairman, this is necessary to forestall the spread of the Covid 19 virus, in particular, the Omicron virus, which to the PSC boss said, it is spreading fast.

Reacting to this development, spokesman for CAN President, Rev. Bayo Oladeji, said, why will such directives be issued only during Christians’ holidays? Adding that, no restrictions are given in other public places except for Christian religious gatherings.

Rev. Bayo Oladeji is therefore of the opinion that, it is rather unfortunate that the FG has given such directives during Christmas celebrations; while the government shy away from enforcing such restrictions in other public places such as markets, banks, airports where, according to the cleric, there are no social distancing or other Covid 19 rules followed.
